PILATES

Originally known as Contrology, Pilates was developed by Joseph Pilates, who dedicated his life to improving his physical fitness after struggling through a sickly childhood. Pilates’ background as a professional boxer, circus performer and self-defense trainer reflects in his system.

​The Pilates method is exercised on the mat and various patented equipment, including the reformer, tower and chair. The apparatus aid in the alignment of the body, enabling it to work efficiently, and its springs provide toning resistance. Pilates practitioners are guided by the principles of Breath, Concentration, Control, Centering, Precision and Flow, which can be applied to all aspects of life.
